Legendary Indian Industrialist Ratan Tata Passes Away
Tata Group expanded globally under Ratan Tata, acquiring Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel, while driving innovation with 100+ AI projects.
Ratan Tata, the legendary Indian industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away last night at the age of 86. Known for his visionary leadership and immense contributions to business and society, Ratan Tata leaves behind a lasting legacy.
Under his leadership, Tata Group expanded its global footprint, acquiring companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel. Tata Group is also working on 100 AI projects valued at 900 million. This AI projects that are having a meaningful impact on customer experience, productivity, and efficiency across its retail and manufacturing businesses and maintaining a strong focus on ethical business practices.
The Maharashtra government declared a day of mourning in his honor, with the national flag at half-mast on government buildings. His body will lie in state at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) from 10 AM to 4 PM, with last rites in Worli later in the day.
Ratan Tata, Born on December 28, 1937, in Bombay (now Mumbai), transformed Tata Group into a global conglomerate, expanding its reach across industries, including steel, automobiles, and IT services.
Under his leadership, Tata Motors launched the iconic Nano and acquired international brands like Jaguar Land Rover, propelling the group onto the world stage.
Beyond business, Tata’s charitable efforts were extraordinary. He was deeply involved in education, healthcare, and rural development, often using his personal wealth to support these causes. His humility and deep sense of responsibility towards society made him beloved by millions.
In recent years, Tata Group embraced cutting-edge technologies, including more than 100 projects focused on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). These initiatives are driving customer experience, productivity, and innovation across various sectors, from e-commerce to manufacturing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on Twitter, saying, “Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute, tweeting, “Ratan Tata was a man with a vision. He has left a lasting mark on both business and philanthropy. My condolences to his family and the Tata community.”

Ratan Tata’s passing marks the end of an era, but his vision, values, and technological foresight will continue to inspire generations to come.
