John Deaton to debate Elizabeth Warren in October
John Deaton, the Republican nominee for the Massachusetts Senate and a well-known pro-crypto lawyer, will face off against Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren in a debate on October 15.
This will be the first time the two candidates debate ahead of the upcoming election, providing a platform to discuss important voter issues.
Deaton, a vocal supporter of cryptocurrencies, has publicly criticized Senator Warren, accusing her of favoring big banks after years of holding them accountable.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Deaton highlighted Warren’s support for bank bailouts following the 2008 financial crisis, a move he claims contradicts her earlier stance on imprisoning bankers involved in the crisis.
"A decade later, those same bankers write her bills," Deaton remarked.
Though cryptocurrency may not be on the official agenda, Deaton has previously challenged Warren to debates on specific issues such as the economy, income inequality, and foreign policy.
Warren, a leading voice in the Senate’s anti-crypto stance, has often criticized the crypto industry and supported increased regulation.
Her advocacy for an “anti-crypto army” is in direct opposition to Deaton’s support of Ripple and other crypto firms engaged in legal battles with the SEC.
Despite gaining the backing of influential figures in the crypto industry, including Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Deaton faces an uphill battle in the election.
Betting markets such as Polymarket currently give Warren a 97% chance of securing a third term, leaving Deaton with just 3%.
