Insider: Telegram has long ignored subpoenas from law enforcement, and Macron once considered granting Pavel Durov French citizenship
Wall Street Journal, a source close to Pavel Durov revealed that Telegram has long ignored law enforcement subpoenas, leaving them piled up in a rarely checked company mailbox. In 2018, French President Macron invited Pavel Durov to move Telegram to Paris and consider granting him French citizenship. In addition, sources say that in 2017, French and United Arab Emirates spy agencies jointly invaded Durov's iPhone in an operation code-named "Purple Music."
