Linea, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, has announced Status as the first contributor to its open-source L2 rollup project. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Linea’s decentralization roadmap and aims to establish a more transparent, secure, and collaborative ecosystem.
Status, a global collective building a digital platform for inclusive communities, will launch the Status Network on Linea. The collaboration involves Status developers engaging directly with Linea’s codebase to operate an identical version of Linea in parallel, strengthening the entire ecosystem.
Nicolas Liochon, Linea’s global lead, highlighted the partnership’s alignment with their focus on open-source development since the successful launch of Linea mainnet alpha.
“Our collaboration with Status is a natural fit, given their significant contributions to core Ethereum operations and their strong consumer-facing focus through the Status app,” Liochon shares.
The Status team’s contributions to Linea will include ongoing engineering efforts, conducting research, and supporting client and prover diversity. Cyprien Grau, a Status core contributor, emphasized the shared vision between Status and Linea to further decentralization on the Ethereum blockchain.
“We believe zk is the endgame for scaling and could not be more thrilled about this deep collaboration aimed to ultimately scale Ethereum horizontally,” Grau said.
Scaling through zkEVMs
Linea’s scaling solution leverages zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) technology to address challenges involving high fees and low transaction throughput on the Ethereum blockchain. This approach aligns with recent statements by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin regarding cross-chain interoperability between Ethereum L2 networks.
In an August 5 post on X, Buterin predicted that people would be “surprised by how quickly ‘cross-L2 interoperability problems’ stop being problems” and the resulting “smooth user experience” across the Ethereum ecosystem.
As the first contributor to Linea’s open-source project, Status Network’s involvement may encourage other developers and organizations to participate in similar collaborations, potentially accelerating innovation and adoption of layer-2 solutions in the broader blockchain space.
