Meta cited a part of the 1996 federal law in an attempt to evade the cryptocurrency advertising lawsuit filed by Australian billionaire Andrew Forrest. A US judge rejected Meta Platform's request to dismiss the lawsuit against Forrest, which alleged that he used deepfake images in Facebook ads to promote a cryptocurrency scam. California district judge Casey Pitts stated in a June 17th order that Forrest can proceed with the lawsuit and attempt to prove that Meta's failure to prevent fraudulent ads violated its obligation to operate in a "commercially reasonable manner." In February 22nd news, Facebook stated that it was not responsible for Andrew Forrest's cryptocurrency scam ads.
