US Authorities Arrest Operator of Dark Web Drug Market Incognito Market
PANews reported on May 21 that, according to CoinDesk, U.S. authorities recently arrested a Taiwanese man named Rui-Siang Lin, accusing him of operating a dark web drug market called "Incognito Market" and facilitating the sale of over $100 million worth of illegal drugs through cryptocurrency. Prosecutors revealed that Rui-Siang Lin, under the alias "Pharoah," oversaw all operations of the market from its inception in October 2020 until its closure in March this year. "Incognito Market" had its own "banking" system, allowing users to conduct anonymous transactions via cryptocurrency, further increasing the secrecy of the transactions. Rui-Siang Lin began creating and operating the market during his university years.
Rui-Siang Lin was arrested on Saturday at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and is scheduled to appear before a magistrate judge in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) today. He faces charges of continuous participation in a criminal enterprise, conspiracy to distribute drugs, money laundering, and conspiracy to sell adulterated and counterfeit drugs.
