The amount of virtual assets traded by South Korean lawmakers in the past three years has exceeded 60 billion won
Zheng Shengrun, the acting chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission of South Korea, announced the results of the 21st National Assembly's virtual asset investigation at the Sejong Government Building in Sejong City, South Korea. According to the latest investigation, the amount of virtual assets traded by members of parliament in the past three years has exceeded 60 billion won. Among the 298 members of the National Assembly, 18 members (6%) hold virtual assets. The number of members of parliament who own encrypted assets has increased from 8 in 2020 to 17 in 2023. During the same period, the types of encrypted assets held by members of parliament increased from 24 to 107. Bitcoin is the most commonly traded cryptocurrency among members of parliament.
During the study period, 11 members of parliament bought and sold cryptocurrencies. Their cumulative purchase amount was 62.5 billion won, and their cumulative sales amount was 63.1 billion won.
It has been confirmed that 10 members of parliament did not report ownership and changes in encrypted assets. Among them, two members of parliament did not register their asset ownership status, two members of parliament missed reporting asset changes, and six members of parliament did not register ownership and changes in assets.
