Only 5.7% of UK MPs have spoken publicly about cryptocurrencies and blockchain
The self-regulatory trade association CryptoUK on December 14th, analyzing the statements of UK lawmakers from 2022 to 2023, only 37 MPs mentioned cryptocurrency and blockchain, accounting for 5.7% of the 650 MPs. This indicates that most lawmakers lack knowledge of the crypto industry.CryptoUK pointed out that high-level UK government officials who mentioned cryptocurrency and blockchain in 2023 include MP and former Economic Secretary to the Treasury Andrew Griffith and cryptocurrency supporter Lisa Cameron.A spokesperson for CryptoUK said, "It is very important for MPs from all parties and corners of the UK to have a better understanding of the crypto asset industry. Nearly 5 million people in the UK own some form of crypto asset, and tens of thousands of people work in the industry, supporting the local economy and helping to grow the UK economy."
