Yup Launches All-in-One Social Aggregator App for Cross-Posting Across Platforms
Yup is a recently launched app that enables users to read feeds, follow friends across various services, and cross-post to multiple social apps, such as Twitter/X, Bluesky, Farcaster, Lens, and Threads. However, using Threads via Yup requires disabling Instagram's 2FA, which is not recommended by TechCrunch. The app's creators believe that it could help consumers and creators build their audiences across platforms by cross-posting and engaging with open protocols while still maintaining their presence on larger social apps like Twitter/X. Yup pays $5,000 per month in API fees to support X, which is funded from a $3.5 million seed round it raised almost two years ago.
Yup is a cross-posting tool that allows users to post to multiple decentralized apps, including Bluesky and Threads. The app is currently available on the App Store and Google Play, but its future is uncertain due to its hack for Threads support. Although Yup offers features like search and notifications, it faces challenges with updating feeds and referencing or quoting posts from one platform to another. Despite these challenges, Yup's existence highlights the competition and fragmentation of the decentralized social web.
