Nostr "Zaps" are a perfect example A huge percentage (likely 80%+), use custodial wallets such as Primal. If you zap custodial-to-custodial, then you did not use a single lightning txn. You have zero privacy, and zero recourse if your custodian takes all of your money (which they can do at any time). It is as far from Bitcoin as it is possible to get. But -- it has "zap" in the name! To trick gullible people, into thinking they are "using lightning". (And using Bitcoin.) They aren't. At this point, some LN supporters might attempt to retreat to a different argument, which goes like this: "okay, but what if Alice signs up with custodian1 ; Bob signs up with custodian2 , and then Alice wants to zap Bob ? Won't there be (at least) one lightning txn, between custodian1 and custodian2 ? Admittedly, sure: Alice and Bob are not using lightning (and, in fact, they are not using any part of the Bitcoin network at all), but isn't it still the case that one additional LN txn has now appeared (?), between custodian1 and custodian2? Doesn't that still count, as 'lightning being used'? I mean, at least *someone* is using LN, when I zap -- even if it isn't me." Even that argument, enormously-watered-down as it is, is false: 1. You don't know how your custodians settle up. It could be LN, or anything else. You have no way of knowing. 2. If the custodians are large, prominent, and few in number, then they will have direct channel connections with each other. They will not need the lightning network, nor HTLCs (even of the older 2014 Tier Nolan variety). Nothing in the LN whitepaper or spec, will help them at all. And eventually this whole charade will be destroyed by an L2 that actually works. Hence, Lightning -- far from being evidence of Bitcoin's growth -- is instead evidence of the community's slide into lies and cultlike delusion. People attack those (such as myself) who tell the truth, and who want people to actually use Bitcoin. And, they defend the worst-of-the-worst, services that take your Bitcoin away from you, and which lie to the community on a colossal scale.
