Famous cypherpunk and cryptographer Adam Beck I am confident that a quantum computer will do Bitcoin even stronger, and will not destroy it.
In his opinion, the hash-based PQ [Post-quantum] scheme will never be used. Most likely, post-quantum technologies will eventually lead to new, more compact signatures, and Bitcoin will add these schemes as another option to the network.
The expert pointed out that signatures in the Bitcoin network prevent third parties from changing transactions, and this is an integral part of the security mechanism. Adam Beck believes that there is no reason to panic now, since civilization is not close to 1 million-qubit quantum computers, and they will not appear in this or perhaps even the next decade.
It should be noted that in early December, Google Quantum AI engineers unveiled the latest quantum chip, Willow. It performed a standard benchmark calculation in less than five minutes. This has once again raised concerns in the community about the potential threat of quantum computers to the Bitcoin network.
As a well-known person in the community believes Adam Beck , it will be at least half a century before computers that can crack the private keys in the Bitcoin network appear.
