SEC welcomes ex-Coin Center director to crypto task force
Landon Zinda has officially joined the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a senior adviser to its newly formed Crypto Task Force after stepping down from his role as policy director at Coin Center.
In a notice dated February 4, acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda announced Zinda's appointment, highlighting his extensive experience in cryptocurrency advocacy.
Zinda will work alongside Chief of Staff Richard Gabbert and Chief Policy Adviser Taylor Asher under the leadership of Commissioner Hester Peirce.
Coin Center communications director Neeraj Agrawal confirmed Zinda's departure, stating he is no longer affiliated with the organisation.
The Crypto Task Force was established on January 21, following the resignation of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler.
Its primary objectives include clarifying regulatory guidelines, creating pathways for registration, and improving enforcement strategies related to digital assets.
The SEC has indicated that the task force will collaborate with other federal agencies, such as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The shift in leadership comes at a time when many industry experts anticipate changes in the SEC's approach to regulating cryptocurrencies under President Donald Trump's administration.
Commissioner Peirce mentioned that the SEC might consider offering "retroactive relief" for certain token offerings, indicating a potential easing of regulatory pressures.
Zinda's background includes working with crypto-friendly legislators, which may influence the task force's direction and priorities.
