What is Casper (CSPR)?
Casper is a new public, decentralized, and permissionless smart-contracting platform that is backed by a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm and WebAssembly (Wasm). The Casper Network is designed to be developer-friendly and optimized for enterprise adoption. It aims to accelerate business operations through features like predictable network fees, upgradeable contracts, on-chain governance, privacy flexibility, and developer-friendly languages. Casper's core features and strengths enable developers and enterprises to benefit from blockchain technology.
The blockchain was created by Vlad Zamfir, one of the first developers of Ethereum, in 2015.
How Casper Protocol (CSPR) Works
Casper’s consensus protocol is called Highway, which is an improvement over traditional Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) protocols. This protocol allows networks to achieve higher thresholds of finality, ensuring that more blocks are finalized, and validators agree to add them to the blockchain. It also provides flexibility by expressing block finality in ways not possible in BFT models. Casper's research is built on the correct-by-construction (CBC) Casper research.
One of the significant benefits of Casper is that it allows for geographical decentralization of validators. Unlike Proof-of-Work networks that need to centralize validators for economies of scale, Casper relies on a group of validators whostake CSPR to verify transactions and uphold the network. Validators are rewarded with CSPR, the native token on the Casper Network, for participating in the PoS consensus mechanism.
How Many Casper (CSPR) Tokens Are in Circulation?
The total supply of CSPR is not capped. Its circulating supply is 10,773,665,171.
